Letter To Duke Basketball Players

Dear Duke players you had another good season, but there was a problem with that. You are not a good basketball team, you are a great basketball team.

I have been following Duke basketball for 50 years and Duke has always had a few great players every season, but this season every player was great. That's right guys, as a team you are the best Duke has ever had, and I know you don't want to let your many fans down.

One thing Duke is known for is their defense, but I didn't see a defense this year. If the other team can't score on you, the worst that can happen is a tie 0 to 0, so I hope you work hard on your defense next season.

I know studying is more important than basketball, but when you get out of class and walk down the hall, notice where everyone in the hall is located and think to yourself could I throw the basketball to that guy without someone else intercepting my pass.

How much time do you spend practicing on the free throw line, whatever the answer is, it's not enough. I didn't go over the stats, but I don't think you would have lost a game this year if the free throw shooting was better and the turnovers were less.

If you turn the ball over 9 times you give the other team a chance to score 27 points. Like I said, I didn't check the stats, but I think you had more than 9 turnovers in almost every game, and I don't think you lost any games by more than 27 points.

I understand not every turnover resulted in 3 points, but you lost your chance of making 3 points. Next season make sure you know where everyone is before you throw the ball.

Am I mad at you, nope, do I still love the Duke basketball players, yep, will I see a big improvement next season, yep, because I feel the love you have for your fans and I believe you will start working right now to not make next season just a good season, but a great one.

Thanks again guys for a good season, you are the best, you are Duke University!!

Go Duke!!
